Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional therapy can be used to help achieve optimum health and wellness, by addressing nutritional imbalances and deficiencies that can affect the normal functioning of the body’s systems. Left for long enough, nutritional deficiencies can lead to disease, as the body is starved of the raw materials it requires to function normally. Unlike conventional medicine, Nutritional Therapy can be used to help prevent illness as well as to help the body regain health once illness has struck. It can work alongside conventional medicine, if necessary, to help support clients back to full health.

Nutritional therapists look at the whole person rather than just symptoms in isolation, viewing wellness in terms of the physical, mental and spiritual balance of a person all of which may contribute to their state of health. Consultations involve taking details of the client’s health history and diet, as well as spending time discussing the functioning of body systems such as digestion, nervous system, respiratory system to understand what is happening in the body. If necessary, tests can probe even further – using either NHS tests or specific nutrition tests available from a private laboratory to pinpoint what might be the underlying cause of illness. By addressing the root causes of the symptoms, we aim to restore balance and health.

Corporate Nutrition

In addition to one on one consultations, I also work with companies who are interested in offering a nutritional therapy package to their staff to support them in the face of stress related disorders and possible absence of work.

A corporate nutrition package, can benefit both you and your employees as happy healthy staff will perform better at work. The package would include workshops, talks and personal consultations tailored to your specifications.

I am available to give one off nutrition talks in the workplace to inspire staff to take charge of their health, through nutrition. I also offer bespoke packages to support productivity and wellbeing within the work place. Please contact me for more information and a quote.

Functional Medicine

Functional medicine is a different way of approaching both illness and health. Conventional medicine focuses on diagnosing a disease, followed by prescribing a drug to either cure the disease or manage the associated symptoms. This is brilliantly effective in acute situations, but for developing or chronic health problems or areas where there is no diagnosis to be had, an evolution on this approach is needed.

Functional medicine is a science-based approach to health and healing that looks at the origins, the underlying causes, of the illness or symptoms. It is a comprehensive approach that emphasizes not just restoring health, but also prevention of disease in the first place.

The underlying premise of Functional Medicine, is that every person is biochemically unique, and each approach to treatment should be as individual as the person being treated.

We aim to “treat the person who has the disease, not the disease itself”.

Functional Medicine constantly seeks to understand why?

Why does this person have this illness or these symptoms?

What is it about this person’s unique genetic make-up and their individual experiences during their life that have resulted in the health problems they are experiencing?

Traditional medicine tends to view the body as a series of compartmentalised organs or body parts. If you have a problem with your gut, you see a gastroenterologist, if you have a problem with your skin you see a dermatologist.

Functional Medicine looks at the person as a whole. Very often, for example, major problems with the skin are actually rooted in the gut. Problems in the gut may be coming from poor nerve activity in the brain. Examining and understanding how the different biological systems work, and how they all impact on each other allows us to intervene upstream, at the cause of the problem, rather than just trying to manage the symptoms.

Meal Planning and Delivery Service

Nutritional Therapy aims to empower and educate you to make positive diet and lifestyle choices, however I understand that some people may need the additional support of a meal plan, or a nutritional food delivery service to support your plan.

I am happy to make a plan with supportive recipes and shopping lists if required, or make homemade meals for you.
